PMD needs 10 weather stations for accurate predictions
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) needs at least ten weather stations in various areas of the country for exact prediction of weather and studying weather and climate, Senator Mushahidullah Khan said Tuesday.
Speaking in Senate on a Point of Public Importance, he said at least Rs 1 billion is required to construct one weather station. Right now only one weather station was working in Karachi, which was constructed with the help of Japan International Coop- eration Agency (Jica).
Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani directed Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change to prepare a comprehensive report on the working of Pakistan Meteorological Department by next session. Meanwhile Senator Nauman Wazir demanded 13.5 percent share of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in total production of electricity.
