PMD needs 10 weather sta­tions for ac­cu­rate pre­dic­tions

IS­LAM­ABAD—Pak­istan Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Depart­ment (PMD) needs at least ten weather sta­tions in var­i­ous ar­eas of the coun­try for ex­act pre­dic­tion of weather and study­ing weather and cli­mate, Se­na­tor Mushahidul­lah Khan said Tues­day.

Speak­ing in Se­nate on a Point of Pub­lic Im­por­tance, he said at least Rs 1 bil­lion is re­quired to con­struct one weather sta­tion. Right now only one weather sta­tion was work­ing in Karachi, which was con­structed with the help of Ja­pan In­ter­na­tional Coop- er­a­tion Agency (Jica).

Chair­man Se­nate Mian Raza Rab­bani di­rected Se­nate Stand­ing Com­mit­tee on Cli­mate Change to pre­pare a com­pre­hen­sive re­port on the work­ing of Pak­istan Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Depart­ment by next ses­sion. Mean­while Se­na­tor Nau­man Wazir de­manded 13.5 per­cent share of Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa in to­tal pro­duc­tion of elec­tric­ity.

Se­na­tor Sam­ina Abid drew the at­ten­tion of chair­man Se­nate to­wards pa­thetic con­di­tion of an­i­mals in Is­lam­abad zoo.—APP
