MD PBM inaugurates blood collection Van
ISLAMABAD—Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul- Mal (PBM) Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh on Tuesday inaugurated blood collection Van at Pakistan Thalassemia Centre on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day.
Addressing on the occasion, Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh said that blood donors were real heroes of the nation who save precious lives. He applauded the humanitarian services of blood donors and said that every healthy person should donate blood for needy patients.
Talking to media, he said that unfortunately there was no concept of volunteer blood donation and urged country people to come forward and donate their blood voluntarily to promote the culture of volunteer blood donation.
He said 0.1 million thalassemic patients in the country need regular blood and there was no mechanism to provide them blood on regular basis. He however said that organizations like PBM were working to manage this issue.
He said that keeping in view the decrease in blood donation during the month of Ramadan, the PBM has launched its blood collection Van service with specific routes to collect blood for thalassemia patients.
He said that the van will start working after Iftar time on daily basis to collect blood besides creating awareness and motivation in people to donate their blood for needy persons particularly thalassemia patients. Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh said that the blood collection van was a positive addition in on-going services to thalassemia patients at PBM’s thalassemia centre.
He said that the PBM arranges blood camps at different places including universities and colleges to collect blood for thalassemia patients. He said that the PBM’s thalassemia centre which was set up one year back was providing free medical services to patients who visit here from different parts of the country including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
