Lo­cals protest against power out­ages

SWABI—En­raged lo­cals on Wed­nes­day shut Swabi-Je­hangira Road for all kinds of traf­fic as part of protest against long du­ra­tions of power out­ages in holy month of Ra­mazan. Po­lice re­sorted to ba­ton-charge and ae­rial fir­ing to dis­perse the pro­test­ers how­ever, re­tal­i­a­tion by the lo­cals in­jured As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner, Sami­ul­lah of Chota La­hore area.

Ac­cord­ing to the lo­cals, they are fac­ing 15-hour long power out­ages on daily ba­sis while what­ever volt­age the area is be­ing supplied is in­suf­fi­cient. Pro­test­ers have warned the ad­min­is­tra­tion of con­tin­u­ing protest un­til they are re­lieved of the suf­fer­ing.

Pe­shawar Elec­tric Sup­ply Com­pany stated that in­creased short­fall is lead­ing to long hours of power out­ages. Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif had is­sued directives from Lon­don to en­sure elec­tric­ity sup­ply dur­ing Ra­mazan.—DNA
