Women protest cut­ting of wal­nut trees

CHITRAL—The women in large num­ber here Thurs­day at Eizj vil­lage of Garam­chishma protested against of­fi­cials of the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Works (C&W) Depart­ment for their fail­ure to stop the il­le­gal cut­ting of the pre­cious Wal­nut trees in the dis­trict.

They were car­ry­ing ban­ners in their hands in­scribed with slo­gan of ap­peal to KP Govt to save the il­le­gal cut­ting of the wal­nut trees. Res­i­dents of Eizj vil­lage in­clud­ing women folk peace­fully protested in front of their houses and wal­nut trees. They al­leged that wal­nut trees were be­ing cut in or­der to con­struct a road lead­ing to PPP MPA Saleem Khan.

They said that the MPA pres­sur­ized the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion and Deputy com­mis­sioner Chitral im­posed sec­tion 4 to forcibly oc­cupy the land for this road which is to­tally in­jus­tice. They said that there are 30 houses in MPA’s vil­lage Kan­do­jal but the ad­min­is­tra­tion was cut­ting wal­nut trees in 150 houses with which are full of fruit. Ex­ec­u­tive En­gi­neer C&W and DC Chitral when con­tacted to seek their opini­ion on the mat­ter re­fused to make any com­ment.—APP
