SSGC notch up 3rd win af­ter last-ball tri­umph over SNGPL

KARACHI—Bel­liger­ent Tariq Ha­roon ham­mered a rapid-fire half cen­tury as Sui South­ern Gas Com­pany (SSGC) notched-up third win in a row with a thrilling last-ball one wick­ets vic­tory over Sui North­ern Gas Pipe­lines Ltd (SNGPL) in Naya Naz­imabad Ra­mazan Cup Cricket Tour­na­ment here at the Lawai Sta­dium on Thurs­day morn­ing.

Tariq, known for his lusty hit­ting at this ground with hilly back­drop, hoisted as many as half a dozen sixes and one bound­ary af­ter fac­ing mere 22 balls.

Cap­tain Shoaib Ma­lik slammed 24 balls 28 with four bound­aries as SSGC reached the tar­get on the last ball. Fawad Alam made 21 with three bound­aries.

Medium pacer Hus­sain Talat claimed three wick­ets for 35 runs and fel­low pacer Atif Jab­bar took two wick­ets for 24 runs.

Ear­lier SNGPL elect­ing to bat first, posted a com­pet­i­tive to­tal of 169 for the loss of nine wick­ets in their 20 overs. Taimoor Sultan hit seven bound­aries and one sixer in his 51 off 31 balls. Hus­sain Talat hit six fours and one six in his 31-ball knock of 49.

Medium pacer Tabish Khan was pick of his team’s bowl­ing tak­ing three wick­ets for 34 runs and slow left arm spin­ner Muham­mad Ir­fan two wick­ets for 25 runs.

With their third straight win in as many nights, SSGC bright­ened their chances for the place in the quar­ter­fi­nal from pool “C”.
