MQM demon­strates against post­pone­ment of LG nom­i­nees elec­tions

KARACHI—Fu­ri­ous over post­pone­ment of elec­tions for Lo­cal gov­ern­ment of­fice bear­ers, the mUt­teahda Qoumi Move­ment Thurs­day staged protest meet­ings be­fore provin­cial elec­tion com­mis­sion’s of­fice de­mand­ing im­me­di­ate ac­tion on the mat­ter and in­stal­la­tion in their re­spec­tive of­fices of those al­ready or nom­i­nated to the var­i­ous tiers of Lo­cal gov­ern­ment in­sti­tu­tions in Sindh.

In speeches made be­fore a plac­ard car­ry­ing crowd of union and dis­trict coun­cil rep­re­sen­ta­tives, cho­sen seven months ago, Rabita Com­mit­tee mem­ber Arif Khan ad­vo­cate, mayor-des­ig­nate Waseem Akhtar and deputy-mayor-elect Ar­shad Vohra, Re­han Hashmi etc, crit­i­cized the ECP for sur­prise de­ci­sion, which they said tan­ta­mounted to deny­ing the rights of the cho­sen rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the peo­ple.

They said that if im­me­di­ate ac­tion was not taken by the elec­tion com­mis­sion to re­trace its steps, the party will an­nounce fu­ture course of ac­tion against the elec­tion com­mis­sion.
