MQM demonstrates against postponement of LG nominees elections
KARACHI—Furious over postponement of elections for Local government office bearers, the mUtteahda Qoumi Movement Thursday staged protest meetings before provincial election commission’s office demanding immediate action on the matter and installation in their respective offices of those already or nominated to the various tiers of Local government institutions in Sindh.
In speeches made before a placard carrying crowd of union and district council representatives, chosen seven months ago, Rabita Committee member Arif Khan advocate, mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar and deputy-mayor-elect Arshad Vohra, Rehan Hashmi etc, criticized the ECP for surprise decision, which they said tantamounted to denying the rights of the chosen representatives of the people.
They said that if immediate action was not taken by the election commission to retrace its steps, the party will announce future course of action against the election commission.
