Bi­lawal re­ceives Bill Gates Foun­da­tion of­fer for po­lio cam­paign

KARACHI—PPP leader Bi­lawal Bhutto re­ceived a tele­phone call from Christo­pher Elias, Pres­i­dent of the Bill Gates and Melinda Foun­da­tion Global net­work for con­tin­ued help, and co­or­di­na­tion in cam­paign against po­lio in the south­ern Sindh prov­ince, ac­cord­ing to a re­port.

An an­nounce­ment here said that a ded­i­cated team of work­ers were ac­tive, de­spite se­cu­rity fears and other hand­i­caps un­der the joint lead­er­ship of his younger sis­ter Aseefa and aun­tie Dr Azra Pechuho in an ef­fort to free the coun­try from po­lio dis­ease.

PPP Chair­man was proud to re­port that his mother and for­mer Prime Min­is­ter Be­nazir Bhutto had first ini­ti­ated po­lio cam­paigns in Pak­istan and Aseefa Bhutto Zar­dari is the first child who was ad­min­is­tered po­lio drops two decades back. Later on, the gov­ern­ment led by Pres­i­dent Asif Ali Zar­dari also ran vig­or­ous drives against po­lio.

He told Elias that Sindh gov­ern­ment has made the Health of­fi­cials and ad­min­is­tra­tions ac­count­able and all stake­hold­ers were co­op­er­at­ing in this na­tional task to achieve po­lio free sta­tus on the globe.

Mean­while in an­other de­vel­op­ment, the US con­sul gen­eral in Karachi, Brian Heath called on Bi­lawal Fri­day, but de­tails of the meet­ing were not re­leased.
