ISLAMABAD —Naeem Bukhari, popular TV celeb-rity and anchorperson on Saturday announced to join Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI). He made this announcement after meeting with PTI chairman here at his Banni Gala residence. Later, talking to media persons, Naeem Bukhari said he had been a fan of Imran Khan for quite a long time.

“I would request all those who are my fan or like my programmes to join Imran Khan and be a part of his drive against corruption and injustice,” said Naeem Bukhari. Later, Imran Khan in a statement welcomed Naeem Bukhari in the party ranks. Naeem Bukhari is a friend and in the past he also contrib-uted and played a positive role in the campaign for Shaukat Khanam Memorial Cancer Hospital, says PTI chairman’s statement.

PTI chairman also lashed the Nawaz government and termed corruption the most serious issue in the country. “If Sharif family is not indulged in corruption of any kind, why is it shying away from accountability,” said Imran Khan. The government has time to reconsider its policy and come clear on Panama Leaks or it would be responsible for the consequences, the statement further said.

Speaking on the occasion, Imran Khan thanked Naeem Bukhari for joining PTI and expressed the hope that he would be helpful in party’s struggle against corruption. He said Naeem Bukhari was his old friend who helped him in fundraising.

Bukhari is a younger brother of former Pakistan fast bowler Altaf Bukhari. His open letter to former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry led to the dismissal of the Supreme Court judge in 2007.
