Sopore clashes against two militants killings
SOPORE, IHK—Clashes erupted in Sopore town and adjacent areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district amid a complete shutdown on Saturday against the killings of two militants in a gunfight yesterday.
Altaf Ahmad Mir of Brath Kalan and Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone of Wussan Pattan died in a gunfight in Bomai village yesterday.
All shops, schools and businesses establishments remained closed while public transport was off the roads. A thin attendance of employees was recorded in government offices.
Clashes erupted in Main Chowk Sopore, Batapora and downtown besides Palhallan, Shangargund and Brath Kalan after a group of youths came out on roads earlier today and staged demonstrations.
Government forces used chilli grenades and tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting youths.
Strong protests also erupted in parts of Zaingair area including Bomai, Tujar and Brath Kalan villages against the arrest of 22 youths, mostly students.
Most of these youths 17 from Tujar Sharief and 5 from Bomai – are students who were detained yesterday.—GK
