So­pore clashes against two mil­i­tants killings

SO­PORE, IHK—Clashes erupted in So­pore town and ad­ja­cent ar­eas in north Kash­mir’s Bara­mulla district amid a com­plete shut­down on Satur­day against the killings of two mil­i­tants in a gun­fight yes­ter­day.

Altaf Ah­mad Mir of Brath Kalan and Imtiyaz Ah­mad Lone of Wus­san Pat­tan died in a gun­fight in Bo­mai vil­lage yes­ter­day.

All shops, schools and busi­nesses es­tab­lish­ments re­mained closed while pub­lic trans­port was off the roads. A thin at­ten­dance of em­ploy­ees was recorded in gov­ern­ment of­fices.

Clashes erupted in Main Chowk So­pore, Bat­a­pora and down­town be­sides Pal­hal­lan, Shangar­gund and Brath Kalan af­ter a group of youths came out on roads ear­lier to­day and staged demon­stra­tions.

Gov­ern­ment forces used chilli grenades and tear smoke shells to dis­perse the protest­ing youths.

Strong protests also erupted in parts of Zain­gair area in­clud­ing Bo­mai, Tu­jar and Brath Kalan vil­lages against the ar­rest of 22 youths, mostly stu­dents.

Most of th­ese youths 17 from Tu­jar Sharief and 5 from Bo­mai – are stu­dents who were de­tained yes­ter­day.—GK
