Pak-US relationship

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION -

ABID SIKANDAR KHOKHAR Pakistan has played key role in accomplishing the American geopolitical interests in South Asia during cold war. Besides, serving as a major NonNATO Ally, it proved to be a vanguard in the “War on Terror” to root out terrorism - a great threat to the tranquillity of the world.

The international community has acknowledged the loss Pakistan has suffered in showing solidarity with US by toeing its line, which infuriated Taliban and made Pakistan their first target. Thus, the terrorist acts, i.e. suicide attacks, bombing, killing and kidnapping the foreigner tourists and professionals, pushed the national economy of Pakistan go into crumbling state. Despite all, Pakistani army is still busy in Zarb e Azab to exterminate the militant hideouts in its territory. It was very shocking as US suddenly refused the delivery of JF-16. Pakistan doubtlessly has been a great help to America in trials and tribulations. Therefore, US strategists ought not to forget Pakistan who has been its all weather friend.

Moreover, US should refrain from having large scale affinity with the permanent enemy of Pakistan through endorsing India’s membership in the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group (NSG) and instigating it to derail China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and cre- ate an unhealthy atmosphere in Balochistan to hinder the accomplishment of mega project; that all would lead to vanish the peace of the region.

Last but not the least, its need of the time that US should review its policy and reciprocate the role played by Pakistan in fostering its interests in the region. A stable Pakistan is in the good pro of US interests in South Asia.
