143 peo­ple killed in one year, au­thor­i­ties ad­mit

SRINAGAR—The au­thor­i­ties have ad­mit­ted that 143 Kash­miris were killed by In­dian troops dur­ing past one year.

The ac­knowl­edge­ment was made by pup­pet Chief Min­is­ter Me­hbooba Mufti in a writ­ten re­ply to a ques­tion in the so-called Kash­mir As­sem­bly. She said that about 800 per­sons were also ar­rested in the 12-month pe­riod from Jan­uary 15 last year.Me­hbooba Mufti who also holds the home min­istry said 47 In­dian troops were also killed dur­ing the same pe­riod.

She claimed that ma­jor­ity of the slain peo­ple in­cluded mil­i­tants. She said the Islamabad, Pul­wama, Kul­gam and Shopian districts ac­counted for the high­est num­ber of mil­i­tants at­tacks, re­sult­ing in the death of 54 per­sons in­clud­ing 12 In­dian troops and 34 mil­i­tants.—KMS Stu­dents of Delhi Public School de­mand re­in­state­ment of teacher who was sus­pended for wear­ing an ab­haya.
