Var­i­ous Afghan, other crim­i­nals ar­rested

KARACHI—Po­lice in raids in dif­fer­ent city ar­eas Mon­day morn­ing ar­rested 14 per­sons, in­clud­ing 6 Afghans from Gul­shane May­mar, and re­cov­ered huge quan­tity of arms and am­mu­ni­tion, a po­lice re­port said.

The Afghans were hid­ing near Sohrab Goth, but now that a coun­try-wide hunt has been launched against il­le­gal Afghan na­tion­als, Karachi po­lice too, has swung into ac­tion to be part of the cam­paign. Raids were con­ducted in Mah­mood­abad, where arms hid­den un­der-ground were re­cov­ered from an un­der-con­struc­tion build­ing. These in­cluded 5 bombs, and bul­lets. Four per­sons were taken into cus­tody.

In sep­a­rate raids in Jo­har Chowrangi, Share Noor Je­han, and Peer­abad, po­lice had to fire at crim­i­nals, in­volved in loot­ing bus pas­sen­gers near Ko­his­tani Chowk. Ri­faqat Ma­lik, Shafiq Channa, and Akhtar Ko­his­tani were taken into cus­tody in injured con­di­tions, while their ac­com­plice Azam Ko­his­tani, man­aged to flee.

In Model Colony, Malir, a drug dealer, and two other ac­cused, 6 sus­pects were ar­rested or de­tained. Po­lice said.
