Larkana under flood threat
LARKANA—Larkana district is under big threat of flood, as water has eroded 1750 ft portion of Hakra dyke at LS Bund and 200 ft of Morio bund at Indus River near Larkana. Despite declaring them most vulnerable embankments, irrigation department has failed to carry out repairs.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired meeting at CM house Karachi to review the flood fighting arrangements in Sindh and received briefing from Irrigation department.
Commissioner Larkana apprised the CM by video link about the situation. Federal Flood Commission has approved scheme Rs 282.545 million for Moria Bund and Hakra bund of River Indus near Larkana, Rs 20 million has been released in this regard, strengthening work is in progress on the occasion CM Sindh had directed the concerned officials of Irrigation department Sindh to take precautionary measures to face flood situation.
Sources said there are total 46 sensitive embankments in Sindhg which needs strict surveillance sensitive dykes among K.K Band, Qadir loop, Old Tori, Ruk Spur, Mohen Jod Daro embankment, Akil Aghani Bund, Nusrat loop bund, LS bund, Moria bund, Hakra bund, SH Band and others which need to most attention and proper rehabilitation.
