Larkana un­der flood threat

LARKANA—Larkana dis­trict is un­der big threat of flood, as wa­ter has eroded 1750 ft por­tion of Hakra dyke at LS Bund and 200 ft of Mo­rio bund at In­dus River near Larkana. De­spite declar­ing them most vul­ner­a­ble em­bank­ments, ir­ri­ga­tion de­part­ment has failed to carry out re­pairs.

Chief Min­is­ter Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired meet­ing at CM house Karachi to re­view the flood fight­ing ar­range­ments in Sindh and re­ceived brief­ing from Ir­ri­ga­tion de­part­ment.

Com­mis­sioner Larkana ap­prised the CM by video link about the sit­u­a­tion. Fed­eral Flood Com­mis­sion has ap­proved scheme Rs 282.545 mil­lion for Mo­ria Bund and Hakra bund of River In­dus near Larkana, Rs 20 mil­lion has been re­leased in this re­gard, strength­en­ing work is in progress on the oc­ca­sion CM Sindh had di­rected the con­cerned of­fi­cials of Ir­ri­ga­tion de­part­ment Sindh to take pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sures to face flood sit­u­a­tion.

Sources said there are to­tal 46 sen­si­tive em­bank­ments in Sindhg which needs strict sur­veil­lance sen­si­tive dykes among K.K Band, Qadir loop, Old Tori, Ruk Spur, Mo­hen Jod Daro em­bank­ment, Akil Aghani Bund, Nus­rat loop bund, LS bund, Mo­ria bund, Hakra bund, SH Band and others which need to most at­ten­tion and proper re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion.
