Cancer patients in Pakistan

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - SANAULLAH SAMAD

Cancer is called the most deadliest disease in the world including Pakistan, where million of people die of cancer. According to World Cancer Report, in a year nearly 10 million people are infected by cancer and in 2020, the cancer patients will be 16 million and from them half of people will die. In Pakistan each year, more than 300,000 people are being affected by cancer and mostly the cases are occurring in Punjab.

Cancer spreads by the use of tobacco, alcohol and gutka, lack of exercise, obesity and inadequate diet. It was estimated that in Karachi, every year 5 lac children are getting addicted to gutka. Beside this, due to the lack of cancer hospitals, the people don’t get treatment of the deadly disease. It is government responsibility to take a serious action and provide better facilities to cancer patients and impose a strict ban on the things, which are the cause of cancer. —Turbat, Balochisgan
