50pc vehicles have fake number plates

Pakistan Observer - - KARACHI CITY - STAFF REPORTER

KARACHI—Almost fifty percent of the private and government cars, including those owned by the Police have fake number plates, for, the Excise and Taxation department of the Sindh government has no records of such vehicles.

That being the situation, the crime galore in the Pakistan’s economic capital, could easily be gauged as to what extent can it be dangerous and insecure for the people, for it would provide a free hand to criminals of all kinds.

Sindh minister Manzoor Wassan fears that law and order situation will take a turn for the worse in July and August. He thought that the kidnapping of chief justice’s son or the target killing of Amad Sabri qawwal was only trailer. The real film will be shown in coming two months time.

The number plate issue surfaced when couple of investigative reporters surveyed on the city crime situation, which after showing some positive results, has begun to deteriorate again. Their research led to conclusions with statistics and realistic assessments that nearly half of the city cars, of private citizens, government servants and even of the police have fake number plates.
