EOBI to pay pen­sions thru ATMs, Wafaqi Mo­hta­sib in­formed

IS­LAM­ABAD—Em­ploy­ees Old-Age Ben­e­fits In­sti­tu­tion (EOBI) on Thurs­day ap­prised the Fed­eral Om­buds­man that revo­lu­tion­ary steps were be­ing taken for the re­struc­tur­ing of the in­sti­tu­tion which also in­cludes draw­ing of pen­sions through ATM cards. The of­fi­cials of EOBI stated this mile­stone would be achieved by the end of next month help­ing out 6.5 mil­lion of work­force to re­ceive their cash through ATM cards avoid­ing long queues in the banks.

The brief­ing was given to a com­mit­tee con­sti­tuted by Fed­eral Om­buds­man of Pak­istan, M. Sal­man Faruqui on the re­struc­tur­ing of EOBI. Ma­lik Asif Hayat, for­mer chair­man Fed­eral Pub­lic Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (FPSC) chaired the meet­ing which was also at­tended by the se­nior of­fi­cials of the EOBI, said a press re­lease.

Of­fi­cials of EOBI while brief­ing the meet­ing stated that re­forms were be­ing in­tro­duced in the in­sti­tu­tion in or­der to fa­cil­i­tate pen­sion­ers. Ef­forts were also be­ing made for the com­put­er­i­za­tion of EOBI record for en­hanc­ing its per­for­mance, they said. The of­fi­cials stated that they were go­ing to sign an agree­ment with the Trans­parency In­ter­na­tional and ask it to watch out EOBI while mak­ing transac-tions and pro­cure­ments in or­der to gain con­fi­dence of gen­eral pub­lic.

They ac­cepted that cur­rently EOBI was fac­ing struc­tural and ad­min­is­tra­tive is­sues but at the same time they were mov­ing in a pos­i­tive di­rec­tion, adding that for the first time data of em­ploy­ees and em­ploy­ers have been dis­played on the EOBI web­site.—APP
