Pemra CoC fines Sa­maa

IS­LAM­ABAD—The Coun­cil of Com­plaints, Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa has rec­om­mended fine of Rs 100,000 on SA­MAA TV chan­nel for air­ing false news on death of SHO, Prang Po­lice Sta­tion Charsada on April 23, this year.

The fine was im­posed on the TV chan­nel in its 67th meet­ing held on Thurs­day un­der the chair­man­ship of Ab­dus Sat­tar Khan at PEMRA Re­gional Of­fice, Pe­shawar, said a press re­lease.

In the mat­ter of com­plaint lodged by Muham­mad Nadir Khan Ad­vo­cate against pro­gramme “News at Six” of ARY News aired on April 30 2016, the Coun­cil took se­ri­ous no­tice of non-ap­pear­ance of rep­re­sen­ta­tive of chan­nel be­fore the coun­cil and de­ferred the mat­ter till next meet­ing, fail­ing which ex­parte de­ci­sion will be taken on the mat­ter.

While hear­ing the mat­ter of Khy­ber TV on air­ing deroga­tory and ma­li­cious re­marks against the ju­di­ciary, CEO of the chan­nel was sum­moned for the next meet­ing in or­der to present his ver­sion be­fore the coun­cil.

The coun­cil also ex­pressed con­cerns on the pro­grammes be­ing aired in the garb of Ra­madan Trans­mis­sions and rec­om­mended the au­thor­ity to mon­i­tor the con­tent of the TV chan­nels dur­ing the holy month of Ra­madan.—APP
