Ebad ac­cords as­sent to Sindh Bonded Labour (Abo­li­tion) Bill

KARACHI—Sindh Gov­er­nor Dr.Ishratul-Ebad Khan has ac­corded as­sent to Sindh Bonded Labour Sys­tem (Abo­li­tion) Bill-2015.

Af­ter sig­na­tures of the Sindh Gov­er­nor it would be called the Sindh Bonded Labour Sys­tem (Abo­li­tion) Act 2015. It will come into force at once and ex­tend to the whole of Sindh.

A Gov­er­nor House of­fi­cial said here on Thurs­day that af­ter the com­mence­ment of this Act who­ever com­pels any per­son to ren­der any bonded labour shall be pun­ish­able with im­pris­on­ment for a term which shall not be less than two years and not more than five years or with fine which shall not be less than Rs. 100,000.

If a com­pany in­dulges in such prac­tice then the head of the com­pany would be same.

For im­ple­men­ta­tion of this Act, vig­i­lance com­mit­tees would be es­tab­lished at district level.

These Com­mit­tees would com­prise of elected rep­re­sen­ta­tives of area, rep­re­sen­ta­tives of district ad­min­is­tra­tion, bar as­so­ci­a­tions, me­dia, recog­nised so­cial ser­vices and the labour depart­ment held re­spon­si­ble for the
