PPP to file ref­er­ence for PM’s dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion on Mon­day

OB­SERVER RE­PORT IS­LAM­ABAD—Af­ter Pak­istan Tehreek-e-In­saf, Pak­istan Peo­ple’s Party has also de­cided to file ref­er­ence in the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Pak­istan for dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion of Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif and other fam­ily mem­bers on Mon­day.

PPP has pre­pared the ref­er­ence against Nawaz Sharif, Pun­jab Chief Min­is­ter Shah­baz Sharif, Hamza Shah­baz, Fi­nance Min­is­ter Ishaq Dar and Cap­tain (retd) Saf­dar, son-in-law of the prime min­is­ter.

The ref­er­ence will be filed in ECP under ar­ti­cles 62, 63 by for­mer gover­nor Pun­jab Latif Khosa. The PPP has al­ready dis­tanced it­self from par­lia­men­tary com­mit­tee on ToRs for in­ves­ti­ga­tion into Panama papers leaks.

PPP leader Bar­ris­ter Latif Khosa said all five of them do not meet the cri­te­ria for qual­i­fi­ca­tion for pub­lic of­fice set under Ar­ti­cle 62 and 63 of the con­sti­tu­tion. He said the ref­er­ence pre­pared by Peo­ple’s Party com­prises of around 1000 pages hav­ing suf­fi­cient ev­i­dence to de­clare them dis­qual­i­fied. It in­cludes self­con­tra­dic­tory state­ments of Prime Min­is­ter Nawaz Sharif, Shah­baz Sharif and Ishaq Dar as ev­i­dence.
