HEC to es­tab­lish two univer­si­ties in Balochis­tan

ISLAMABAD—Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Com­mis­sion (HEC) will es­tab­lish Univer­sity of Gwadar and a Cam­pus of Univer­sity of Balochis­tan at District Zhob to pro­vide ed­u­ca­tional fa­cil­i­ties to the stu­dents of far flung ar­eas.

Ac­cord­ing to an of­fi­cial of HEC, these projects were in line with China Pak­istan Eco­nomic Cor­ri­dor (CPEC) and would con­trib­ute to­wards pro­vid­ing bet­ter higher Ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­i­ties in Balochis­tan.

List­ing other ini­tia­tives, the of­fi­cial said, un­der the ‘Univer­sity Ac­cess at District Level’ ini­tia­tive, sub cam­puses of 16 pub­lic sec­tor in­sti­tutes and 15 sub cam­puses of the dis­tant learn­ing univer­si­ties will be es­tab­lished in Phase-I of the project.

Skill univer­si­ties at the fed­eral and pro­vin­cial lev­els will be es­tab­lished which in­clude up­grad­ing the Na­tional In­sti­tute of Science and Tech­ni­cal Ed­u­ca­tion (NISTE) and es­tab­lish­ing skill univer­si­ties in Sindh and Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa.

To pro­vide ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­i­ties in the far flung ar­eas, the of­fi­cial said one of the im­por­tant ini­tia­tives would be to es­tab­lish the Univer­sity of Baltistan, which would be the sec­ond af­ter the Karokaram Univer­sity in Gil­git.

The HEC is also work­ing on the con­cept of the smart univer­si­ties, which will be con­nected on cam­pus, and will help cre­ate bet­ter en­vi­ron­ment for learn­ing from any­where in the univer­sity.

The first Science and Tech­nol­ogy Park will also be es­tab­lished un­der the project “Es­tab­lish­ment of Na­tional Science and Tech­nol­ogy Park at Na­tional Univer­sity of Science and Tech­nol­ogy (NUST)”.—APP
