Raising issue of child marriage

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - AYESHA FATIMA — Karachi

‘Do you want your daughter to get married at an early age?’ You would obviously not want to do that. I am pleased to say that you must look up for the raising issue of child marriage. Do you know that there are about 40,000 girls getting married at an early age? Most of the girls die after marriage because of the family pressure she can not bear put by her in-laws. Sometimes even the husbands are callously non-cooperative and ruthless. So the girl goes deep in depression or even loses her life. Another way that the girls die is that the reproduction of her baby happens at an early age which gives her a lot of agony that she can not withstand at such a tender age.

There is a strong need to create public awareness about the hazards of early marriages, and the media can play an effective role towards this end. I am sure that child marriage will stop soon. I strongly believe that this issue should be stopped; else we may lose all moral character thus falling into an abyss of destruction.
