HCBA con­demns ha­rass­ment of jail in­mates

SRI­NA­GAR—In oc­cu­pied Kash­mir, the High Court Bar As­so­ci­a­tion has strongly con­demned the ill treat­ment meted out to the in­mates of District Jail, Islamabad.

A spokesman of the Bar in a state­ment is­sued in Sri­na­gar said that the de­tainees in Islamabad jail were abused, tor­tured, hu­mil­i­ated and beaten ev­ery­day by the jail au­thor­i­ties for none of their faults.

“Bar As­so­ci­a­tion also con­demns the con­tin­ued il­le­gal de­ten­tion and house de­ten­tion of pro- free­dom lead­ers with­out be­ing pro­duced be­fore any mag­is­trate for seek­ing their ju­di­cial or po­lice re­mand,” the spokesman said.

The Bar As­so­ci­a­tion ap­pealed to the in­ter­na­tional hu­man rights or­ga­ni­za­tions in­clud­ing Amnesty In­ter­na­tional and Asia Watch to take no­tice of the plight of the pris­on­ers lodged in jails and ex­ert pres­sure on New Delhi to up­hold and re­spect the hu­man rights and not to tor­ture or abuse de­tainees.—KMS
