Me­hbooba wins Anant­nag by-poll by a huge mar­gin

ANANT­NAG—Chief min­is­ter Me­hbooba Mufti Saturday won Anant­nag by-poll by a huge mar­gin of 12,117 votes, de­feat­ing her clos­est ri­vals Congress can­di­date Hi­lal Shah and NC’s Iftikhar Mis­gar.

Mufti who led in all the count­ing rounds was de­clared winner af­ter the eleventh and the fi­nal round. Out of the to­tal 28,493 polled votes, Me­hbooba se­cured 17,701 fol­lowed by Shah who se­cured 5,615 votes.

Mis­gar, how­ever, man­aged to get only 2,811 votes. Awami Iti­had Party can­di­date Mu­jee­bul-Rehman se­cured 642 votes. Three in­de­pen­dent can­di­dates, Man­zoor Ah­mad Khan, Mush­taq Ah­mad, Te­jin­dar Singh and Mas­roor Ah­mad, man­aged 541, 333, 240 and 209 votes re­spec­tively.—KR
