Mehbooba wins Anantnag by-poll by a huge margin
ANANTNAG—Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Saturday won Anantnag by-poll by a huge margin of 12,117 votes, defeating her closest rivals Congress candidate Hilal Shah and NC’s Iftikhar Misgar.
Mufti who led in all the counting rounds was declared winner after the eleventh and the final round. Out of the total 28,493 polled votes, Mehbooba secured 17,701 followed by Shah who secured 5,615 votes.
Misgar, however, managed to get only 2,811 votes. Awami Itihad Party candidate Mujeebul-Rehman secured 642 votes. Three independent candidates, Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad, Tejindar Singh and Masroor Ahmad, managed 541, 333, 240 and 209 votes respectively.—KR
