Cy­cling: Vi­chot edges French road race cham­pi­onship

VESOUL (France)—Arthur Vi­chot won a three-way sprint to claim the right to wear the tri-colour road-race na­tional cham­pion’s jersey for the next year af­ter edg­ing out Tony Gal­lopin and Alexis Vuiller­moz on Sun­day.

The dif­fi­cult course was made for a pow­er­ful rider and FDJ man Vi­chot, also cham­pion in 2013, com­pleted the 248.9km run in 6hr 13min 38sec as fel­low punch­ers Gal­lopin and Vuiller­moz fin­ish­ing on his wheel af­ter a late break.

Vi­chot, 27, will now em­bark on the Tour de France next Saturday in the easy to pick out tri-colour na­tional cham­pion’s jersey, guar­an­tee­ing he’ll be cheered all the way to Paris.—AFP
