7 sus­pects ar­rested

KARACHI—At least seven sus­pects have been de­tained by Rangers dur­ing raid in var­i­ous ar­eas of Karachi on Sun­day.

Ac­cord­ing to Rangers spokesper­son, as many as four sus­pects be­long­ing to a banned out­fit were ap­pre­hended dur­ing op­er­a­tion in Ko­rangi, Gul­berg and Orangi Town and arms were re­cov­ered from their pos­ses­sion. On the other hand, dur­ing snap check­ing in Bal­dia and Za­man Town atleast three sus­pects were taken into cus­tody.

Karachi, a me­trop­o­lis of 20 mil­lion that hosts the stock ex­change and cen­tral bank, is be­set by armed vi­o­lence, and many of its sprawl­ing slums are no-go ar­eas for out­siders.

Two years ago, the mil­i­tary, with help from po­lice, para­mil­i­tary Rangers and in­tel­li­gence agen­cies.—NNI
