Ebad for con­certed ef­forts to elim­i­nate po­lio

KARACHI—Sindh Gover­nor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has said that it is the col­lec­tive re­spon­si­bil­ity of the en­tire so­ci­ety to un­der­take con­certed ef­forts for the elim­i­na­tion of po­lio.

He was of the view that if the cases of po­lio keep com­ing to the fore, there is a risk that travel ban on Pak­ista­nis may per­sist.

The Gover­nor was talk­ing to a del­e­ga­tion of the In­ter­na­tional Po­lio Plus Com­mit­tee Chair, Michael K.Mc. Gov­ern. The mem­bers of the del­e­ga­tion in­cluded chair­man of Pak­istan Po­lio Com­mit­tee Na­tional Chair, Aziz Me­mon, Carol Pan­dak, Ju­dith Dei­ment, Saleem Rao, Owais Ko­hari and Iran Qureshi.

Ebad was of the view that there is a need to fos­ter aware­ness among the peo­ple that po­lio vac­cine can help chil­dren from the risk of dis­abil­ity. He said some el­e­ments are spread­ing base­less pro­pa­ganda against po­lio vac­cine. The Gover­nor said that cent per­cent cov­er­age of chil­dren will help en­sure erad­i­ca­tion of po­lio.

He stated that the fed­eral and provincial gov­ern­ments are un­der­taken sig­nif­i­cant steps for erad­i­cat­ing po­lio. The role of World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion and Ro­tary In­ter­na­tional is also commendable.—APP
