Flour, sugar avail­able in abun­dance in Ra­mazan bazaars: Min­is­ter

LA­HORE—Pro­vin­cial Min­is­ter for Food Bi­lal Yasin dur­ing a mon­i­tor­ing meet­ing of Ra­mazan Pack­age at Civil Sec­re­tar­iat, said that flour and sugar are avail­able in abun­dance in 318 Ra­mazan bazaars set up in the prov­ince.

He di­rected dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tions to en­sure im­me­di­ate sup­ply of flour and sugar for last ten days in Ra­mazan bazaars, as their de­mand will rise be­fore Eid. He said that the staff of dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tions should pre­pare 2kg pack­ets of sugar in max­i­mum num­ber so that the fast­ing peo­ple do not have to stand in long queues for the pur­chase of this item.

Chief Sec­re­tary Pun­jab Capt. (R) Zahid Saeed took notice of the com­plaint that the peo­ple have to get their par­tic­u­lars reg­is­tered in Ra­mazan ba- zaars of Faisal­abad and Su­man­dri for the pur­chase of sugar. He said that 9452 met­ric ton sugar has so far been sold on con­ces­sion­ary rate in Ra­mazan bazaars of the prov­ince. He said that gov­ern­ment has an equal quan­tity of sugar in its stock and ar­range­ments have been made for its sup­ply to dis­tricts.

The meet­ing was in­formed that 6710 shop­keep­ers in­volved in over­charg­ing have been ar­rested in Pun­jab this year. A fine of Rs. 4,3408,256 has been im­posed on traders, re­tail­ers, fruit mer­chants and oth­ers for over­charg­ing, short weigh­ing and other of­fences. Sim­i­larly, 4769 FIRs have been got reg­is­tered against traders dur­ing the first 20 days of Ra­mazan for over­charg­ing.

More­over, 5,000 shops and stalls have been in­spected in open mar­ket and Ra­mazan bazaars dur­ing this pe­riod. Sec­re­tary Food Pun­jab Dr. Per­vaiz Ahmed Khan, Sec­re­tary In­dus­try Khalid Sher Dil, Sec­re­tary I&C Farasat Iqbal, Sec­re­tary In­for­ma­tion & Cul­ture Pun­jab Raja Ja­hangir An­war, Spe­cial Sec­re­tary Agri Mar­ket­ing Dr. Farah Ma­sood, Spe­cial Sec­re­tary Chief Min­is­ter’s In­spec­tion Team Fazal Ab­bas and se­nior of­fi­cers of con­cerned de­part­ments at­tended the meet­ing.

Mean­while, it is re­ported that the City Dis­trict Gov­ern­ment La­hore (CDGL) con­tin­ued drive against hoard­ing and over­charg­ing in Ra­mazan and con­ducted raids on 1272 shops across the pro­vin­cial cap­i­tal, here on Tues­day. Dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion also chal­laned 74 shop-keep­ers be­sides im­pos­ing fine worth Rs 104,000 on vi­o­la­tors of the Price Act. DCO Capt. (Retd) Muham­mad Us­man is­sued di­rec­tions to the price con­trol of­fi­cials to con­tinue crack­down against the hoarders and prof­i­teers.
