Karachi sees first mon­soon rain­fall

KARACHI—Parts of the city re­ceived light to mod­er­ate rain­fall on Tues­day evening.

Res­i­dents could be seen en­joy­ing the rain as the down­pour turned the city’s weather pleas­ant. Rain was re­ported from ar­eas in dis­trict East and Cen­tral.

Ma­jor­ity of ar­eas in dis­trict South did not re­ceive rain­fall, with old city ar­eas fall­ing in the dis­trict only re­port­ing a light driz­zle.

The Pakistan Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal De­part­ment had ear­lier in the day pre­dicted chance of light rain­fall in Karachi. The metropolis has wit­nessed hot and hu­mid weather since last week, and the rain­fall brought some re­lief to the peo­ple.

Var­i­ous parts of Thar on Tues­day also re­ceived mod­er­ate to heavy rain­fall.

Ar­eas of Mith, Chel­har and Kaloi wit­nessed thun­der­storms, while the towns in the re­gion also re­ported re­ceiv­ing heavy rain fall.

“The peo­ple who had mi­grated to bar­rage ar­eas have started com­ing back to their homes,” said Nisar Ahmed, Ad­di­tional Deputy Com­mis­sioner Thar.

Elec­tric­ity sup­ply across the re­gion was badly af­fected fol­low­ing the rain­fall.
