Pemra CC im­poses fines on TV chan­nels

IS­LAM­ABAD —Com­plaints Coun­cil of Pak­istan Elec­tronic Me­dia Reg­u­la­tory Au­thor­ity (PEMRA) has rec­om­mended fine of Rs one mil­lion on Royal News for broad­cast­ing in­sult­ing con­tent against Na­tional Ac­count­abil­ity Bureau (NAB).

The 63rd meet­ing of PEMRA Com­plaints Coun­cil La­hore was chaired by Dr Me­hdi Has­san at PEMRA Re­gional Of­fice La­hore. It also rec­om­mended fine of Rs 200,000 for ab­sence and non- se­ri­ous­ness of ARY News in a com­plaint filed against the chan­nel by Pun­jab Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Rana Mash­hood Khan.

Dur­ing hear­ing of com­plaint of Messrs GEO tele­vi­sion against ca­ble op­er­a­tors, the coun­cil or­dered all ca­ble op­er­a­tors to in­clude the chan­nel in their news bou­quet. The coun­cil de­ferred the com­plaint of Messrs Si­tara Chem­i­cal In­dus­tries against Chan­nel 24 till next hear­ing while im­pos­ing fine of Rs 50,000 on it for its non-se­ri­ous at­ti­tude.

Mean­while, the coun­cil de­ferred the hear­ing of com­plaint filed by Waqas Qadeer Sheikh against Chan­nel 24. It also de­ferred the com­plaint filed by crick­eter Muham­mad Hafeez against tele­vi­sion chan­nels due to his tour to Eng­land with the Pak­istani team.

The meet­ing was at­tended by mem­bers of the coun­cil Dr Sughra Sadaf, Dr Mubashir Nadeem, Dr Lubna Za­heer, Iftikhar Ahmed Tarar and Re­gional Gen­eral Man­ager PEMRA Dr Muham­mad Saf­dar Rehman.
