LARKANA—One prisoner died due to heat and 10 other prisoners fell unconscious after disconnection of electricity of central Jail Larkana by Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) owing to outstanding dues Rs 20 million, Chief Secretary took notice and get the electricity restored here on Friday.
According to reports, three days back, SEPCO officials disconnected the electricity of Central Jail Larkana owing to outstanding dues Rs 2 crore and 25 lacs, conditions of 11 prisoners deteriorated and fainted in their barracks, one of serious prisoner namely Muhammad Yousif passed away in way when he was being shifted to Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana whereas 10 others were provided the medical aid at Jail dispensary, identifying as Wali Dino Chana, Abdul Aziz Bhutto, Yousif Bhangar, Ameer Bux Joyo and others.
Sources in Central Prison aprised this scribe that over 1200 prisoners are languishing in jail Larkana due to disconnection of electricity for 3 days, prisoners are facing many hardships as water supply has been suspended in all barracks.
Chief Secretary Sindh Sidique Memon contacted to CEO SEPCO Mujahid Hussain Bula and later electricity of jail was restored. IG Jails Nusrat Mangan told media that prisoner Muhammad Yousif Soomro died due to prolonged illness not by heat wave, however he has taken the notice of matter and will look into the situation.
