LARKANA—One pris­oner died due to heat and 10 other pris­on­ers fell un­con­scious af­ter dis­con­nec­tion of elec­tric­ity of cen­tral Jail Larkana by Sukkur Elec­tric Power Com­pany (SEPCO) ow­ing to out­stand­ing dues Rs 20 mil­lion, Chief Sec­re­tary took no­tice and get the elec­tric­ity re­stored here on Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, three days back, SEPCO of­fi­cials dis­con­nected the elec­tric­ity of Cen­tral Jail Larkana ow­ing to out­stand­ing dues Rs 2 crore and 25 lacs, con­di­tions of 11 pris­on­ers de­te­ri­o­rated and fainted in their bar­racks, one of se­ri­ous pris­oner namely Muham­mad Yousif passed away in way when he was be­ing shifted to Chandka Med­i­cal Col­lege Hos­pi­tal Larkana whereas 10 oth­ers were pro­vided the med­i­cal aid at Jail dis­pen­sary, iden­ti­fy­ing as Wali Dino Chana, Ab­dul Aziz Bhutto, Yousif Bhangar, Ameer Bux Joyo and oth­ers.

Sources in Cen­tral Prison aprised this scribe that over 1200 pris­on­ers are lan­guish­ing in jail Larkana due to dis­con­nec­tion of elec­tric­ity for 3 days, pris­on­ers are fac­ing many hard­ships as wa­ter sup­ply has been sus­pended in all bar­racks.

Chief Sec­re­tary Sindh Sidique Me­mon con­tacted to CEO SEPCO Mu­jahid Hus­sain Bula and later elec­tric­ity of jail was re­stored. IG Jails Nus­rat Man­gan told me­dia that pris­oner Muham­mad Yousif Soomro died due to pro­longed ill­ness not by heat wave, how­ever he has taken the no­tice of mat­ter and will look into the sit­u­a­tion.
