NH & MP launcheds cam­paign to check over­charg­ing

LA­HORE—The Na­tional High­ways & Mo­tor­way Po­lice (NH&MP) Cen­tral Zone have launched a cam­paign to check vi­o­la­tions of over­charg­ing and over­load­ing in pub­lic ser­vice ve­hi­cle on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.

DIG Mirza Faran Baig said this dur­ing a sur­prise check­ing of over­charg­ing in buses on na­tional high­ways near Thoker Niaz Baig, here on Satur­day. The po­lice re­turned the over­charged amount to pas­sen­gers and im­posed fine on vi­o­la­tors.

Baig di­rected the pa­trolling of­fi­cers to strictly en­force laws about over­charg­ing and over­load­ing. No over­loaded pub­lic ser­vice ve­hi­cles should be al- lowed to ply on high­ways, he added.

The DIG di­rected the sec­tor and beat com­man­ders to per­son­ally su­per­vise the pa­trolling of­fi­cers and con­duct meet­ings with trans­porter as­so­ci­a­tions re­gard­ing over­charg­ing and over­load­ing. The co­or­di­na­tion will also be made with the Regi­nal Trans­port Author­ity sec­re­tary for proper en­force­ment of traf­fic laws.

It was re­ported ear­lier that that Na­tional High­ways & Mo­tor­way Po­lice (NH&MP) launched ‘Pub­lic Friendly Soft Polic­ing Cam­paign’ un­der which the Mo­tor­way Po­lice au­thor­i­ties has di­rected all zonal of­fi­cers to dis­trib­ute ‘If­tar’ pack­ets con­tain­ing juices, bis­cuits, dates, flow­ers and Eid greet­ing pam­phlets among the com­muters at all Toll Plaza’s of na­tional high­ways and mo­tor­ways.

All dig­ni­taries were present on roads to su­per­vise the cam­paign. Spe­cial du­ties and ex­tra pa­trolling ve­hi­cles have been de­ployed to lend max­i­mum help to com­muters in light of Eid rush and to re­spond quickly to calls made on the mo­tor­way helpline. The of­fi­cers were asked to check over­load­ing and over­charg­ing by pub­lic ser­vice ve­hi­cles and to en­sure pas­sen­ger safety. The IG also urged the of­fi­cers to treat com­muters with re­spect, ex­change Eid greet­ings and to be le­nient against mi­nor vi­o­la­tions.—APP
