Anti-Po­lio drive in FATA

Re­cently a 6-day anti-Po­lio cam­paign was launched in fron­tier re­gion of Dera Is­mail Khan, Tanko and South Wazirstan Agency. Ac­cord­ing to FATA Sec­re­tar­iat’s Emer­gency Op­er­a­tion Cen­tre dur­ing the cam­paign 129,539 chil­dren un­der the age of five years would be given po­lio drops. Nearly 111 mo­bile, 29 fixed and 15 tran­sit teams with 375 com­mu­nity health work­ers have taken part in the cam­paign. This year al­ready twelve cases have been recorded in Pak­istan, for­tu­nately no case is found in FATA re­gion.

How­ever Pak­istan and Afghanistan are the only coun­tries in world where po­lio is crip­pling small kids. The main rea­son is mil­i­tants threat. But Pak­istan has pro­vided and tighten the se­cu­rity for the po­lio team work­ers to erad­i­cate po­lio and be a po­liofree coun­try. —Kech, Bal­co­his­tan
