Rebuttal by National Bank of Pakistan
KARACHI—We at NBP are at a loss that despite our efforts to service our customers where our branches were kept open till 8:00 pm on June 29, 2016 and remained open until midnight on June 30th, 2016; processed over a million transaction worth over Rs. 100 billion; certain reports were published in newspapers that were inaccurate and created a negative image of the bank.
We would like to clarify and give a true picture for the benefit of our customers. On July 02, 2016 our branches were opened at 8:00 am but due to delay in availability of the System, as a result of extraordinary volume of transactions over the previous days and longer end of day processing, the branches could only service certain segment of customers. There was no system breakdown as reported in certain newspapers and our ATMs were fully functional and processed more than 250,000 transactions.
In addition, the Management of the Bank made arrangements that branches of NBP be kept open till late at night on July 02, 2016. As a result the Bank started serving all customers in the afternoon and continued serving until the last customer was served including our valued pensioners and salaried persons throughout Pakistan. We regret any inconvenience to our customers and assure you of our utmost commitment to provide the best possible service.
