Wa­ter sup­ply, san­i­ta­tion reg­u­la­tions en­forced for pro­vi­sion of clean drink­ing wa­ter

RAWALPINDI—Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment & Com­mu­nity Devel­op­ment De­part­ment Pun­jab has en­forced Wa­ter Sup­ply and San­i­ta­tion Reg­u­la­tions in the Prov­ince with the ob­jec­tives to pro­vide clean drink­ing wa­ter and im­proved san­i­ta­tion sys­tem to the peo­ple. Ac­cord­ing to the Reg­u­la­tions the Mu­nic­i­pal Staff would adopt all re­lated pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sures be­sides en­sur­ing timely main­te­nance and proper su­per­vi­sion of wa­ter reser­voirs and sew­er­age sys­tem in their re­spec­tive ar­eas.

This was stated by the Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment and Com­mu­nity Devel­op­ment De­part­ment Pun­jab Shahid Nasir Raja while ad­dress­ing on the oc­ca­sion of Clean & Green Train­ing Work­shop for LG&CD Of­fi­cers/of­fi­cials on Wa­ter Sup­ply and San­i­ta­tion Reg­u­la­tions and Anti Dengue Op­er­a­tions COP’s held at Potho­har Hall, Rawalpindi. The ca­pac­ity build­ing train­ing ses­sion was or­ga­nized by LG&CD De­part­ment with the co­op­er­a­tion of Unicef WASH Pun­jab. The event was at­tended by Ad­di­tional Sec­re­tary LG&CD Ma­lik Muham­mad Waris, Di­rec­tor LG&CD Mian Na­jeeb As­lam, ADC Rawalpindi Arif Rahim, Deputy Sec­re­tary LG&CD Talha Hus­sain Faisal, Deputy Di­rec­tor LD&CD Muham­mad Za­man Wat­too and Of­fi­cers of Tehsil Mu­nic­i­pal Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Rawalpindi Di­vi­sion. Ad­vi­sor to Chief Min­is­ter Pun­jab Dr. Waseem Akram was the guest of hon­our on the oc­ca­sion who ap­prised par­tic­i­pants about the cur­rent sit­u­a­tion of dengue preva­lence in the Prov­ince and said that ac­cord­ing to the pre­dic­tions of Metro­log­i­cal De­part­ment more rains ex­pected dur­ing mon­soon sea­son. He asked Tehsil Mu­nic­i­pal Of­fi­cers to re­main vig­i­lant in their ar­eas and do their ut­most to check dengue lar­vae es­pe­cially dur­ing rains so that it could not be­come an epi­demic dur­ing the dengue sea­son. Dr. Waseem was of the view that any un­to­ward sit­u­a­tion can be emerged if proper mea­sur­ers were not adopted to con­trol dengue. He also shared fig­ures of pre­vi­ous years re­lat­ing to dengue cases.

Ad­dress­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Shahid Nasir Raja said that Wa­ter Sup­ply and San­i­ta­tion Reg­u­la­tions would en­able the com­mu­nity to get safe drink­ing wa­ter and all con­cerned had been given de­tailed guide­lines to en­sure reg­u­lar mon­i­tor­ing of wa­ter reser­voirs and any neg­li­gence would be pe­nal­ized ac­cord­ing to the law. The Ad­di­tional Sec­re­tary LG&CD Ma­lik Muham­mad Waris asked Of­fices and Of­fi­cials of LG&CD De­part­ment to work with devo­tion and ded­i­ca­tion and serve the masses hon­estly. He said we can save the peo­ple from wa­ter bound dis­eases by en­sur­ing sup­ply of germ free drink­ing wa­ter and keep­ing sew­er­age lines leak­age free.

Di­rec­tor LG&CD Mian Na­jeeb As­lam said that un­der the di­rec­tives of Sec­re­tary LG&CD, Naseem Nawaz, es­pe­cial em­pha­sis has been laid on train­ing and ca­pac­ity build­ing of LG&CD field staff so that they could proper main­tain their wa­ter sup­ply schemes and ob­serve the de­fined pro­to­col of de­salt­ing sew­er­age lines.
