Long detentions of Kashmiri leaders rapped
SRINAGAR—Senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman National People Party Syed Salim Gilani while strongly condemning the continuous house confinement of Syed Ali Geelani and Shabir Ahmad Shah even in sacred month of Ramadan and now fresh arrest of Zaffer Akbar Bhat said, these oppressive tactics will never ever weaken the freedom sentiment neither the people of Kashmir nor the leadership.
In a statement to media, Syed Salim Gilani said apart from several youths, Dr Qasim Faktoo and Masarat Alam Bhat have already been detained on charges of innocence since years. He said the tactics are being implemented only to weaken our freedom sentiment.
Salim Gilani said placing ailing Syed Ali Gilani under house arrest and even restricted Geelani Sahib to of- fer Friday congregational prayers was worst of its rights violation and direct interference in religious matters.
He said the house of Shabir Ahmad Shah been turned in to a jail.
He said those who made hallow claims of democracy can even not face our peaceful activities and the fresh arrest of Zaffer Akbar Bhat was yet another example of state oppression. —Email has
