High Court di­rects civil, po­lice au­thor­i­ties to save school build­ings

SRI­NA­GAR—The Jammu and Kash­mir High Court has said col­lec­tive ef­forts are needed to save school build­ings as it is the re­spon­si­bil­ity of all to safe­guard them as ed­u­ca­tion is piv­otal for in­tel­lec­tual ex­cel­lence and pros­per­ity.

High­light­ing the im­por­tance of ed­u­ca­tion, a Pil ti­tled Justice Mo­ham­mad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Muham­mad Ma­grey in Suo-moto vs State of J&K oth­ers case said that in­vest­ment in ed­u­ca­tion is an in­vest­ment for fu­ture gen­er­a­tions.

They ob­served that set­ting school build­ings on fire is in ef­fect de­stroy­ing the knowl­edge cen­tres of fu­ture gen­er­a­tions.

The court di­rected the Di­vi­sional Com­mis­sioner Kash­mir, In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice, Kash­mir, and Direc­tor School Ed­u­ca­tion Kash­mir to de­vise modes and meth­ods in col­lab­o­ra­tion with higher au­thor­i­ties and lower of­fi­cials which shall be ef­fec­tive in pro­tect­ing school in­sti­tu­tions.

The court di­rected the Chief Sec­re­tary, Direc­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice, Direc­tor School Ed­u­ca­tion Kash­mir to is­sue nec­es­sary in­struc­tions to all DCs, SSPs and CEOs of the con­cerned dis­tricts to take all pre­ven­tive and pro­tec­tive mea­sures nec­es­sary for sav­ing the school build­ings from any harm.—GK
