Dr Aj­mal Khan ap­pointed KU vice chan­cel­lor

Prof Dr Aj­mal Khan has been ap­pointed the ViceChan­cel­lor (VC) of the Univer­sity of Karachi (KU), an of­fi­cial of the in­sti­tu­tion said here on Mon­day.

He stated that the gover­nor of Sindh, who is also the chan­cel­lor of Karachi Univer­sity, has ap­pointed Prof Dr Aj­mal Khan as the vice chan­cel­lor of the univer­sity for a pe­riod of four years. The in­cum­bent Vice Chan­cel­lor, Prof Dr Qaiser, con­grat­u­lated the newly ap­pointed VC and ex­pressed his best wishes for him.

Prof Aj­mal Khan has spent 40 years in teach­ing and re­search. He was awarded a Ph D by Ohio Univer­sity in 1985 and a D Sc by the Univer­sity of Karachi in 2011. He has been a vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor in sev­eral Amer­i­can and Euro­pean uni­ver­si­ties. The pres­i­dent of Pakistan awarded Prof Khan with the Pride of Per­for­mance award in 2001 and the Si­tara-i-Im­tiaz in 2007 in recog­ni­tion of his sci­en­tific con­tri­bu­tion.

He served the Univer­sity of Karachi from 1975 till his re­tire­ment in 2012 as a tenured mer­i­to­ri­ous pro­fes­sor and later joined Qatar Univer­sity’s Cen­tre for Sus- tain­able Devel­op­ment as the Qatar Shell Pro­fes­so­rial Chair in Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment and Co­or­di­na­tor of the Food Se­cu­rity Pro­gram.

Prof Khan has com­pleted 40 re­search projects on var­i­ous as­pects of salt tol­er­ance in plants. The au­then­tic­ity and unique­ness of his re­search has re­ceived wide ac­claim from his peers and fel­low re­searchers and his pub­li­ca­tions are re­peat­edly cited in pa­pers from var­i­ous cor­ners of the world.

He has more than 400 pub­lished re­search pa­pers to his name and has edited 14 books.
