Dr Ajmal Khan appointed KU vice chancellor
Prof Dr Ajmal Khan has been appointed the ViceChancellor (VC) of the University of Karachi (KU), an official of the institution said here on Monday.
He stated that the governor of Sindh, who is also the chancellor of Karachi University, has appointed Prof Dr Ajmal Khan as the vice chancellor of the university for a period of four years. The incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Qaiser, congratulated the newly appointed VC and expressed his best wishes for him.
Prof Ajmal Khan has spent 40 years in teaching and research. He was awarded a Ph D by Ohio University in 1985 and a D Sc by the University of Karachi in 2011. He has been a visiting professor in several American and European universities. The president of Pakistan awarded Prof Khan with the Pride of Performance award in 2001 and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2007 in recognition of his scientific contribution.
He served the University of Karachi from 1975 till his retirement in 2012 as a tenured meritorious professor and later joined Qatar University’s Centre for Sus- tainable Development as the Qatar Shell Professorial Chair in Sustainable Development and Coordinator of the Food Security Program.
Prof Khan has completed 40 research projects on various aspects of salt tolerance in plants. The authenticity and uniqueness of his research has received wide acclaim from his peers and fellow researchers and his publications are repeatedly cited in papers from various corners of the world.
He has more than 400 published research papers to his name and has edited 14 books.
