Nigar Awards back
Looks like the Nigar Awards will be back after a gap of fourteen years. These awards were an annual event in the heyday of Pakistani cinema, for whatever it was worth. They recognised outstanding achievements. The awards were introduced in 1957 by Ilyas Rashidi, the pioneer of film journalism in Pakistan. They were discontinued when Pakistani cinema fell into bad times. Now they are backthough Ilyas Rashdi, the founder, is dead. The next Nigar Awards ceremony will be held in Karachi in March.
The event announcing the revival featured Kashif Warsi, Aslam Ilyas Rashidi, (Ilyas Rashidi’s son), Mustafa Qureshi and Ghulam Mohiuddin, besides many other new entrants to the industry.
