Curbs on Media Condemned
Journalists, politicians, lawyers and civil society activists expressed solidarity with Dawn newspaper and DawnNews TV channel regarding their censorship. Owners of newspapers and TV channels urged that they should not compromise on freedom of media.
It was emphasized that people had the right to decide which newspaper they wanted to read and that those elements that had been curbing media were asked to focus on their business and let the media persons decide what to say.
Protestors pointed out that it was not for the first time in the history of Pakistan that the media was being forced to censor news and follow a line and that democracy could not flourish without free media.
