Ben­gali for ‘good,’ was co-founded by Shimul Minhas Ud­din from Bangladesh and Jess Priemus from Aus­tralia as a fair trade de­sign la­bel to em­power dis­ad­van­taged com­mu­ni­ties, par­tic­u­larly women. By pro­vid­ing health­care, ed­u­ca­tion and child­care, ru­ral Bangladeshi ar­ti­sans are trained to cre­ate hand em­broi­dered ap­parel in eth­i­cal work­ing con­di­tions. The ap­parel and ac­ces­sories col­lec­tions have an eco-friendly fo­cus, of­ten pro­duced with­out elec­tric­ity us­ing nat­u­rally dyed, aazo chem­i­cal-free cot­ton. Both cot­tons and silks are hand loomed and hand em­broi­dered and mostly sewn us­ing foot-ped­aled sewing machines.
