Re­gional Ties with China

Chi­nese Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping re­cently met with the Chair­man of the Uni­fied Com­mu­nist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Puspa Kamal Da­hal Prachanda. Both lead­ers pledged for co­op­er­a­tion where Nepal is seek­ing a greater role from China in pro­tect­ing its fun­da­men­tal in­ter­ests. Xi, who is also the gen­eral sec­re­tary of the Com­mu­nist Party of China’s Cen­tral Com­mit­tee, as­sured that China gives great im­por­tance to bi­lat­eral ties with Nepal, ap­pre­ci­ates Nepal’s ad­her­ence to the one-China pol­icy, and sup­ports Nepal’s ef­forts to achieve national progress and de­vel­op­ment.

Dur­ing the meet­ing, Xi as­sured that China is will­ing to work with Nepal to re­in­force their friend­ship and boost bi­lat­eral ties to pro­mote their com­pre­hen­sive co­op­er­a­tive part­ner­ship, where main­tain­ing a win-win re­la­tion- ship will be of top pri­or­ity.

The China-Nepal friend­ship is not only in the fun­da­men­tal in­ter­ests of the two coun­tries and its peo­ple, but also sig­nif­i­cant in bring­ing sta­bil­ity and de­vel­op­ment in the re­gion. Xi re­as­sured that his Com­mu­nist Party of China would in­crease ex­changes with Nepal’s Uni­fied Com­mu­nist Party and other ma­jor po­lit­i­cal par­ties of the coun­try to strengthen their friend­ship. Prachanda ex­pressed grat­i­tude to China’s self­less as­sis­tance over the years and be­lieved that China will pro­vide Nepal with fi­nan­cial and tech­ni­cal sup­port. Fur­ther­more, Prachanda as­sured that Nepal would con­tinue to ad­here to the one-China pol­icy.
