Death of a poet

Renowned Afghan poet, Us­tad Mo­ham­mad Sad­diq Pasarli died af­ter a pro­tracted ill­ness. Born in the Qarabagh district of south­ern Ghazni prov­ince, Pas­rali spent four years of his yearly child­hood in his home­town and later mi­grated to north­east­ern Kun­duz prov­ince with his fam­ily. He had ded­i­cated his en­tire life to Pashto lit­er­a­ture and his cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties got mo­men­tum dur­ing and af­ter the Sovi­etAfghan war. Pasarli’s con­tri­bu­tion to Pashtu po­etry and lit­er­a­ture is widely ac­knowl­edged. He also men­tored budding poets.

Pres­i­dent Hamid Karzai voiced his deep grief over Pasarli’s death and termed it an ir­re­versible loss.
