Death of a poet
Renowned Afghan poet, Ustad Mohammad Saddiq Pasarli died after a protracted illness. Born in the Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province, Pasrali spent four years of his yearly childhood in his hometown and later migrated to northeastern Kunduz province with his family. He had dedicated his entire life to Pashto literature and his cultural activities got momentum during and after the SovietAfghan war. Pasarli’s contribution to Pashtu poetry and literature is widely acknowledged. He also mentored budding poets.
President Hamid Karzai voiced his deep grief over Pasarli’s death and termed it an irreversible loss.
