The Afghanistan Ge­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey is gain­ing the skills needed to ex­plore and ex­ploit the coun­try’s vast nat­u­ral re­sources with the help of ad­vi­sors from the U.S. Task Force for Busi­ness and Sta­bil­ity Op­er­a­tions ( TFBSO). It com­prises drillers and ge­ol­o­gists who will train the first batch from the Afghanistan Ge­o­log­i­cal Sur­vey. The econ­omy of Afghanistan could wit­ness a turn­around if the coun­try is able to mine its nat­u­ral re­sources.

Afghanistan is es­ti­mated to have $3 tril­lion worth of min­eral de­posits, which re­main un­ex­ploited. Gold, iron ore, cop­per ore, emer­alds, lapis, ru­bies as well as nat­u­ral gas are said to be found in large quan­ti­ties in the north of the coun­try.
