Help­ing Polio Cam­paign

ThePak­istan Army will help the provin­cial govern­ment of Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa in the erad­i­ca­tion of polio from North and South Waziris­tan. The de­ci­sion was taken in view of the recurring polio cases in these ar­eas. Now, all teams of health work­ers will be ac­com­pa­nied by army per­son­nel. There are three re­gions of con­cern with re­gard to the polio erad­i­ca­tion pro­gram – the Bara Tehsil of Khy­ber Agency and North and South Waziris­tan.

North Waziris­tan has recorded 33 polio cases in Pak­istan’s to­tal tally of 47 in 2014. South Waziris­tan had two cases, Khy­ber Agency one while Bannu had two cases. The army’s help has been sought in view of non­va­c­ci­na­tion of over 300,000 chil­dren in these ar­eas where the mil­i­tants had banned vac­ci­na­tion in mid-2012.
