Oneyear af­ter the Rana Plaza tragedy, re­tail­ers and brands have de­posited a to­tal of $17 mil­lion so far with the Rana Plaza Donor Trust Fund to com­pen­sate vic­tims of the build­ing col­lapse that took the lives of at least 1,135 people. Some 29 re­tail­ers and brands that sourced gar­ments from the five fac­to­ries in the Rana Plaza are a part of the com­pen­sa­tion.

The Bri­tish brand Pri­mark will pay $9 mil­lion to the 580 work­ers of the New Wave Bot­tom Ltd, a fac­tory that was lo­cated on the sec­ond floor of the Rana Plaza. The Swedish re­tail gi­ant H&M do­nated $0.1 mil­lion to the trust fund on hu­man­i­tar­ian grounds, al­though it did not source gar­ment items from any fac­tory in the Rana Plaza.
