TheMal­dives hosted a team of spe­cial­ist doc­tors from In­dia which con­ducted med­i­cal camps in the coun­try. The team, which con­sisted of four doc­tors from the In­dian De­fense Forces, led by Col RK Tha­par, was ac­com­pa­nied by an ad­di­tional med­i­cal spe­cial­ist and a para­medic from the In­dian-built Se­nahiya mil­i­tary hos­pi­tal in Male, held med­i­cal camps in the atolls of Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaal and Vaavu from June 15 to 20.

The doc­tors had spe­cial­ties in in­ter­nal medicine, der­ma­tol­ogy, den­tal dis­eases, pe­di­atrics and surgery. They con­sulted pa­tients in re­gional health cen­ters and per­formed mi­nor op­er­a­tive pro­ce­dures. The con­duct of reg­u­lar med­i­cal camps is a ma­jor ini­tia­tive in de­fense co­op­er­a­tion between the Mal­dives and In­dia. Dur­ing the last camp held in Jan­uary 2014, the In­dian med­i­cal team ex­am­ined more than 2,000 pa­tients.
