A brave nation

Southasia - - EDITOR'S MAIL -

It lifts one’s spirit to see a country like Afghanistan, which the media has portrayed as a constant warzone, moving on the path to a peaceful existence. People stepped out of their homes to vote in the face of serious threats while the candidates ran their campaigns despite several attacks by terrorists on their rallies and convoys. Eventually, the brave security forces of Afghanistan made it possible for the people to come out and vote by maintaining peace throughout the country.

The economic hurdles that the new government will face seem secondary as compared to the threat of the re-emergence of the Taliban. The government should brace itself for all the challenges it is likely to face.
