The Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank (ADB) will pro­vide $800 mil­lion in stages to con­nect 1,000 vil­lages of Sri Lanka to the coun­try’s ma­jor road net­work. Sri Widowati, Coun­try Di­rec­tor for ADB’s Res­i­dent Mis­sion in Sri Lanka, has said that the coun­try would re­ceive $100 mil­lion in Septem­ber and another $100 mil­lion in De­cem­ber if ev­ery­thing goes well.

The ADB is al­ready in the process of fi­nanc­ing the ex­pan­sion of wa­ter

sup­ply sys­tems in key ur­ban ar­eas, in­clud­ing Colombo, with the aim of en­sur­ing 24/7 wa­ter sup­ply, higher qual­ity stan­dards, ad­e­quate cov­er­age and lower wa­ter leak­ages. At the same time, ADB also sup­ported the cov­er­age ex­pan­sion of ur­ban sew­er­age to re­duce pol­lu­tion and im­prove health con­di­tions.
