The Business Op­por­tu­nity and In­for­ma­tion Cen­ter of Bhutan has started ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for loans from en­trepreneurs, small busi­ness­men, farm­ers and or­di­nary cit­i­zens with good business pro­pos­als. Of the Nu 1.9 bil­lion al­lo­cated for this scheme, 1.5 bil­lion will be for small and cot­tage in­dus­tries with big­ger projects hav­ing a max­i­mum ceil­ing of Nu 8 mil­lion and smaller projects of up to Nu 2 mil­lion. The re­main­ing 400 mil­lion is set aside for ru­ral de­vel­op­ment and business, tar­get­ing farm­ers and the agri­cul­tural sec­tor.

The BOIC web­site has been launched simultaneously and con­tains op­er­a­tional guide­lines to ac­cess funds, brochures and ap­pli­ca­tion forms for the funds. The cen­tre will also in­den­tify vi­able business op­por­tu­ni­ties and of­fer them to the pub­lic. Th­ese could be com­mer­cial farms, live­stock projects, brick man­u­fac­tur­ing, fur­ni­ture units, char­coal projects, agri­cul­ture, etc.
