The Bank of Bhutan has started basic banking services from community centers in partnership with the Bhutan Post Corporation Limited to include the unbanked and under-banked population of the country in the banking net. The initiative, which involves basic services such as opening an account, cash withdrawal and deposits, will help educate the rural population
about banking services, inculcate the habit of savings and enable them get more access to funds. The bank also plans to provide loan facilities, mostly agriculture-based, to rural people.
There are 186 community centers in Bhutan, of which 132 are connected to the internet. The Bank of Bhutan is the country’s oldest bank and has 44 branch offices.
