The Bank of Bhutan has started ba­sic bank­ing ser­vices from com­mu­nity cen­ters in part­ner­ship with the Bhutan Post Cor­po­ra­tion Limited to in­clude the un­banked and un­der-banked pop­u­la­tion of the coun­try in the bank­ing net. The ini­tia­tive, which in­volves ba­sic ser­vices such as open­ing an ac­count, cash with­drawal and de­posits, will help ed­u­cate the ru­ral pop­u­la­tion


about bank­ing ser­vices, in­cul­cate the habit of sav­ings and en­able them get more ac­cess to funds. The bank also plans to pro­vide loan fa­cil­i­ties, mostly agri­cul­ture-based, to ru­ral peo­ple.

There are 186 com­mu­nity cen­ters in Bhutan, of which 132 are con­nected to the in­ter­net. The Bank of Bhutan is the coun­try’s old­est bank and has 44 branch of­fices.
